I had always been interested in caves, but my first chance for serious cave exploration came when I was invited to make a film about the Oxford University caving expedition to the Castro Urdiales region in Northern Spain, summer 1967. That was the start of regular summer visits to the Cantabrian Mountains over the next six years.
